Join us at Copenhagen Atomics as we finish building a functioning thorium molten salt reactor.

Copenhagen Atomics has invented a new form of nuclear reactor, which is significantly more efficient than any previous nuclear reactors. This will be a game changer for the global energy sector. Our reactors will be able to provide energy at lower cost than any other technology (including fusion).

As a company, we value curiosity, flexibility, being self-driven, yet able to collaborate, and the possibility to grow as a person and professional.

Department:

The Fuel Salt Production team is central to Copenhagen Atomics’ mission. We produce the high-purity fluoride salts needed for reactor testing and research, and we’re building the production capability to scale. The team consists of engineers, technicians and specialists working closely together in a hands-on environment.

We are building multiple production lines, and we need someone who will own the quality and consistency of our chemical processes. You will be responsible for ensuring that every batch of molten salt meets specification: maintaining validated purification methods, running analytical QC, investigating deviations, and keeping process documentation current. You will be working closely with our technicians, engineers and radiation officer to ensure the production processes are incrementally improved.

Day-to-day, that means:

  • Owning analytical QC for fuel salt production: sampling plans, acceptance criteria, instrument calibration
  • Maintaining and validating purification methods to consistently meet product specifications
  • Investigating out-of-spec results and process deviations, driving root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Maintaining analytical instrumentation (ICP-MS, ICP-OES, XRF or similar)
  • Ensuring process consistency across multiple production lines
  • Maintaining batch records, process documentation, and quality control protocols
  • Supporting the scale-up from single-line to multi-line production

This is a hands-on role. You will work directly with equipment, salts, and processes alongside process engineers and technicians. When something doesn’t meet specification, you figure out why and fix it.

What we’re looking for:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field
  • Experience with analytical chemistry in a production or QC environment, including method validation
  • A systematic, structured approach to documentation, data integrity, and problem-solving. You bring order to production: you build the checklist, follow the checklist, and improve the checklist
  • Hands-on aptitude: willingness and ability to work directly with equipment and processes
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the quality domain within a small team
  • Experience with inorganic chemistry, salt chemistry, or high-temperature processes is a plus
  • Experience from a regulated environment (pharmaceutical, chemical, nuclear, or similar) is a plus
  • A background in nuclear or radiation is not necessary. Full training will be provided in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Curiosity and willingness to drive next generation energy development

Safety and regulatory environment

You will work with radioactive materials (thorium and uranium fluorides) in a regulated environment governed by the Danish Radiation Protection Act and associated executive orders. Strict adherence to radiation protection procedures is required at all times. The role also involves handling chemical substances subject to workplace safety regulations. No prior experience with radioactive materials is required.

Additional information:

Copenhagen Atomics has invented a new form of nuclear reactor, a thorium molten salt reactor, which is significantly more efficient than any previous nuclear reactor. This will be a game changer for the global energy sector, providing energy at lower cost than any other technology.

Based in Copenhagen, we are an international team of over 70 engineers, technicians, designers, and specialists developing a new, low-cost, abundant, sustainable, and safe nuclear technology to be manufactured on assembly lines.

As a company, we value curiosity, flexibility, being self-driven yet able to collaborate, and the possibility to grow as a person and professional.
